OWNERS - Sharon Del Vecchio
AREA OF SAILING - Pultneyville Yacht Club, NY
E-Mail Sharon  The boat has been in my family since 1970. She had one other owner who only sailed her for a year. My former husband and I traveled Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River. We made several trips to Canada and she always handled well. This year I have done little sailing due to a knee injury and may decide to sell her. She has the original spars. The cabin has been redone with new electrical system, holding tank, stove, GPS, etc. The decks need care, but I was unable to do them this year. Varnish is in good shape on cabin and spars. The boat has never had a mishap or insurance claim. I would be interested in hearing from other cadet owners

"I installed a Betamarine diesel (3-cyl. 18 hp) two years ago.  Due to lack of space on the O-27, this was the only engine of that size that would fit.  Very difficult job requiring many hours of unnatural postures.  I had to build a steel bed for it to adapt it to the wood stringers.  The end result is very nice, but if anyone should attempt to take this on, he should contact me about this project first.  Otherwise, the boat is nearly completely restored and in the best shape yet.  Unfortunately, I am now working on another boat, so this one will have to go, probably next year."

Boat-  "Arkaba" -  1969 Offshore 27  Newell Cadet
OWNERS -Dave Matthews
AREA OF SAILINGSidney, BC
E-Mail Dave   Just purchased this boat in Seattle and brought her back to Canada for some restoration work.  Impressed with the design and sailing ability of the Cadet it has exceeded every expectation and may end up being a keeper once the work is all done.  Teak decks may have to come off to investigate some softness in the foredeck, but other than that most of the work will be cosmetic in nature.  Maybe other owners of this model (the Mark II) have some comments about the soft foredeck.  I thought this model had a solid fiberglass deck but perhaps it is in fact cored.
Boat-  "Deodar" - 1966  Offshore 27  Newell Cadet

I love it!! I just bought this boat with the naive intention of cruising, and I'm still buried under piles of rotted teak, old defunct engine parts and improvisations that were installed over the years but didnt work. It's a glorious little craft, I sail it alone and will be heading out towards Central America pretty soon. I'm not your typical cruiser (very low on cash) and its not your typical boat  12/05

Boat-  "Tsue Kwan" - 1968  Newell Cadet
OWNERS - Harry Donald Hirt Jr
AREA OF SAILING -  Joe Pool (Dallas Tx)
E-Mail Harry    I was given the boat a year ago. She was in sad shape when I saved her from the chainsaw. She had been abandoned for about five years when I found her. The marina was about to cut her up into little choey lees and take her to the dump. She had two feet of black soup above the floor boards and green and black mildew head to toe in the cabin. The mast was on two saw horses setting across the badly neglected teak deck with a four inch bow down it. There was very little finish left on anything. And so I was told if I want it get it out of here. So from there on I have been consumed by the beuty of this little vessel. I have rebuilt the spruce mast, carved my own spreader arms, and replaced most of the standing rigging. The cabin is now livable and lookn good, but still in the works. The head still had the old porcelain bowl. So I made new sills out of an old intertube and with a lot of cleaning look and works like new. She still needs new cushions but that will have to come last for I would hate to blemish these new beuties. As for the heart of the beast she didn't come with the atomic bomb nor an diesel but an old palmer m60 and with a little spit and tlc she's purrin like a kitten. I've gotten most of old gray teak refinished and are now recaulking the deck, sinkin all the scews and glueing down 1,300 new teak buns. All the sails were down below in her time of neglect and there for in great condition all including, a heavy 90, a 120 on an old furling that can not be reffed, a 170 difter, and a beutiful leaf cut spin. All in all I walked away with a great free boat. And with about 1,200 bucks and countless man hours. She sails great, pretties girl at the dance always, and a purring heart, but there is no such thing as a free boat. Later I'll tell you how I demasted her and re rebuilt her and if you ever see tsue kwan and I at some old gunk hole stop and have a coldie and I'll tell you about all our hardships and how we made it and untill then happy sail

Boat-  "Mandarin" - 1973 Mark II, Offshore 27  Newell Cadet
OWNERS - Edward Ritchie
AREA OF SAILING -  Pacific Northwest
E-Mail Edward  I purchased 'Mandarin', a 1973 Offshore 27 (Cadet) about a year ago. She had been sitting on a trailer in a parking lot for about 4 years. Every time I drove by I felt a stirring in my heart. As 'Mandarin' slowly deteriorated my heart finally called to me to "DO SOMETHING". I located the owner and asked him to share his story. It was a sad one that fully justified the boat's location and condition. I asked if he wanted to sell her and he made me an offer I couldn't refuse. 'Mandarin' is currently in my shop and is undergoing a complete restoration. I don't plan to launch her until she is "Finished"! I have planned several upgrades and will probably spend the rest of my retirement fine tuning her while exploring all that the Pacific Northwest has to offer. I've cruised these waters for nearly 50 years on various boats I have owned but always on a limited schedule. I look forward to"Wandering".
